Two Letters
August 15, 2006
Jim Henshaw (Seraphic Entertainment Limited)
I am writing to encourage your support of a remarkable theatre
project written by Tony Nardi, for which I don’t even
know the title. Mr. Nardi’s one man show/monologue piece
is variously known in my world as “A Letter to Sarah”,
“An Actor’s Rant” and “That
Thing Tony’s Doing”.
I have had the good fortune to watch it evolve through several
incarnations; and remain, as I was at its first reading, stunned
by its intelligence, insight and emotional power.
Having spent more than 35 years in professional theatre, television
and film, I can honestly say, I have never been exposed to a
piece of work that so clearly defines the role and responsibilities
of the performing artist; indeed of all artists working in the
realms of theatre and film. I truly believe it is a work which
has the power to change the way artists view themselves and
their work; and in doing so positively alter the nature of the
dramatic work being done in this country.
Tony’s play is about honesty and accountability in an
industry that prides itself on being able to fake such virtues.
I do not think you will ever find a more worthy project for
your fullest support.
